An Awkward Reunion

Yesterday I met up with a couple of people I did my A levels with. They're back on holiday. It was awkward.

First off, we were never really good friends. And then I never really got on with them. Particularly now, considering how different the paths our lives have taken. They're following the traditional route of studies. They all went off to college, come for visits, intermittently, and then head back. I on the hand, went to college, dropped out, came back, and am now looking for alternative methods of getting a degree, no..and accredited degree.

So no, we didn't have much to say to each other and yeah, they found it weird that I was going to tuition and wouldn't bunk because they happened to be there. But you know what? It took me almost a year to build up a life here again, and I'm not about to bend over backwards for people who rarely, well never, bother to say "hey" when they're in town. Another of our mutual friends at whose house they were meeting up, called me.

So yeah it was awkward. That's life I guess.

And it never fails to baffle people that I choose to study, of my own free will, and quite against most other peoples common sense, Mathematics. The one things that has consistently made sense, and the one things I've done consistently well in since 7th grade.

Perhaps that's the reason, right there. Who knows?

On to the Summer School Adventure!!

whine whine whine moan cry moan whine whine

Now that that's out of the way...

So guess what...I've spent 2 days researching summer school programs in England and I can't seem to find anything nor mathematics or music!! Cambridge has their International Summer School which has some interesting courses...but you know what they just don't seem exciting...and seriously...if I'm going to spend my summer studying I may as well find it incredibly exciting/stimulating. There’s no real point otherwise is there?

Though the idea of being at Cambridge for four whole weeks is rather exciting…I mean how bad could it be? I’m sure there’ll be a whole bunch of people there who know as little as I do…*scary mental image of super smart Cambridge students in discourse during class and me with a giant come hat on, the word “dunce” springs to mind* shudder….it’ll be great! Bah!

Of course that’s not going to stop me from trying to go and have a ball in their library!!! *grin grin* Yup you guessed it!! I am secretly a nerd!! Though I, for some unknown reason, prefer the work geek…well actually that’s Ms Geek to you! Too much familiarity never leads to good things! :P

And yes I am going slightly loopy…I think that might have something to do with the fact that I also downloaded the syllabi for the music examinations…not that I’m going to sit for them but it seems like a good idea to know what I should be looking at and studying, despite the fact that I have no piano teacher as yet…I really should call Hiroko today!!

Anyway…now that I’ve downloaded a whole bunch of stuff it should keep me busy…hopefully! *evil grin*

Shoes!!! I need Shoes!!!!

Well my dears...it's that time of the year again. It's Eid. And...I don't have SHOES!!

Most of you who live in this city probably know how hard it is to find a decent pair of shoes. All I ask is for one pair of size five (UK) strappy, non-patent leather, heels. That's it. Now seriously...is it fair that's it's near impossible to find a pair of plain heels without paying through your nose??

I'll you what...you can go out there and buy shoes with all the world gems and diamontes...but that one pair of shoes/sandals you want will never be there.

The sari is pink and beautiful...but at the end of the day...it's no good without those heels. Though I suppose we can make do with that other pair of shoes!!

And so the search continues...

The First Day of the many Days

3 hours! That's how long our session was yesterday! But you know what it was exhilarating!

Nobel Prizes..Field Medals..International Math Congresses!!! Next one's in Hyderabad Deccan in 2010!! Provided India and Pakistan are still on good terms, I'll Inshallah go!!! YAY!!

Anyway, talk about diving in at the deep end!! Definitions...Proofs...exercises!!! My goodness!! By the time I got home, all senses were down...until I ate!! hehehe!!! Man I don't think I've eaten so fast in ages!!!

I have survived...the next session is this evening...I have to finish my proofs when I get home today! I didn't think I'd be this excited about all this...but here I am excited and willing to spend my days and nights at a desk...studying and working!!! can't remember the last time this happened...Thank you God!!

A Mathematician in Training

After many, many months of searching it seems I have finally found a tutor!!

“Joy to the world, Sam found a tutor!”

Hehe!! Truly it is! People around me thought, “Yes! We won’t have to listen to her whine and watch her sulk around the house all day now!!” Sucker!! Now you have to listen to all my existential angst crap!!! Ha!

But really it’s not so bad. I have a tutor who, I hope, thinks I have what it takes to cut it. Though he does say it’ll take about two weeks o see whether my enthusiasm for math is actually for math per se or some sort of application of it. Two weeks, Damn! Bet what the hey! What else to I have to do right?

I think I will actually see if I can do my BSc externally from KU. At least then I won’t have to study all this other crap! Damn! How I wish life were as simple as it was supposed to be…Go to college…kick butt…Do masters…kick more butt…Do PhD…Become great mathematician…and super brilliant prof…sweet simple…almost forgot, find man along the way…get married and all that.

But here I sit…22 years old and 2 years behind schedule! Right now I should have had a year and a half of college left, instead of starting again. Too many bad choices, both mine and others’. But that’s life I guess. Who knows what this all will lead too. Maybe I will end up changing the education system here. Maybe I’m just meant to…God knows!

Anyway, I should look into summer courses abroad. They may help with the whole doing masters abroad thing. Damn it!! Why must I always want the things I can’t get here! But I shall persevere and then life will be brilliant!! Hehehe…Yeah right!!

But I can always dream can’t I!
